A one ounce 2021 Royal Arms gold coin minted by The Royal Mint.
The Royal Coat of Arms is one of the oldest and most recognised national symbols of Britain, originating from the great seal of King Richard I, also known as Richard the lionheart, in 1198. The Coat of Arms has been a feature of British coinage for over six hundred years and is a common sight to all citizens of the UK appearing on passports, government documents and official seals.
The 2021 one ounce fine gold coin features the latest image of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark on the obvers along with the Royal Arms by Timothy Noad on the reverse. This is an updated version of his design used for the 2015 £1 gold coin - as seen here. The shield represents the four nations of the UK and bears the inscription "HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE" - Latin for 'Shame on he who thinks evil on it'.
