Half Ounce Gold Britannia
The half ounce gold Britannia was introduced in 1987 as part of the launch of the series. The Royal Mint correctly predicted that many investors would want a smaller option than the full sized coin. The demand seen has ensured that a half ounce gold Britannia has been produced annually since.
As the name suggests the half ounce gold Britannia contains 1/2 a troy ounce of gold. Initially this was a 22 carat coin, but since 2013 all Britannias are now struck in 24 carat gold - 999.9 fineness. As such the 1/2oz Britannia gold coin contains 15.5515 grams of gold.
