2023 £2 Coin Gold Double Sovereign Coronation

The 2023 Coronation Double Sovereign returns to the classic George and Dragon design by Benedetto Pistrucci found on the modern Sovereign since 1817. The 2023 £2 Sovereign coin is a special release to celebrate the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III and as such it features a crowned version of the King Charles III portrait by Martin Jennings, with the Monarch wearing the Tudor Crown.

The Tudor Crown was the imperial and state crown of English monarchs from the time of Henry VIII until it was destroyed in 1649. Since that time it has been used in insignia as a symbol of The Crown and the British Monarchy. It also appears on King Charles' personal Cypher and the design was personally chosen by the king. We expect this to be the only time bullion Sovereigns are issued with a crowned version of the portrait making them an even more collectible coin.

Like all Double Sovereigns the 2023 Two Sovereign coin is struck in 22 carat gold and contains 14.6 grams of pure gold.
