A smaller Maple leaf appears just below the main leaf, which is a security detailing from the Canadian Mint to deter forgeries.

The obverse side bears a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, as created by Susanna Blunt. This side of the coin states the Queen’s name at the top and 50 Dollars 2019 at the bottom. Both sides of the coin feature a special light diffracting pattern, which like the small Maple leaf is another security measure to deter duplication.
