1815 20 French Francs gold coin. It features the uniformed bust of Louis XVIII and the reverse has a wreath and coat of arms. The year and mint mark are below the wreath, whilst the value is above the wreath to the right. The text on the obverse reads "LOUIS XVIII, ROI DE FRANCE" and on the reverse it reads "PIECE DE 20 FRANCS". The "R" mint mark indicates that the coin was minted at the Royal Mint in London. This was done at the request of Louis XVIII, the king of France, who had been forced to flee his homeland after Napoleon returned from exile. King Louis returned to France after Napoleon's defeat at the Battle of Waterloo in June of 1815 and the Royal Mint ceased production of these coins later that same year.
