The Cinco Pesos gold coin is a small size bullion coin from the Mexican Mint, issued by the Banco de Mexico between 1905 and 1955. Most of these five pesos coins have been restruck to show the year 1955.

Prior to the release of the South African Krugerrand, these coins were a very popular item to collect or convert savings into due to their lightweight nature and the ease of storage.

On the front (obverse) of the gold coin is the celebrated pastor Don Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla. He famously led an army of 90,000 civilians into battle during the Mexican War of Independence. His portrait is surrounded by the words Cinco Pesos and the year of the coin's production.

The back of the coin, like most Mexican coins, features the national coat of arms - the golden eagle devouring a snake while standing on a cactus. “Estados Unidos Mexicanos” is emblazoned above the Mexican crest, and translates to United Mexican States.
