1926 Gold Sovereign Coin George V SA

The obverse of the King George V 1926 Gold Sovereign depicts the bare head portrait, designed by Bertram Mackennal. This effigy of King George V shows his profile facing left. It is the first official portrait of George V to be used on coins minted by the Royal Mint. The sculptor's initials, ‘B.M.’, are visible at the bottom of the head.

The inscription on the coin reads 'GEORGIVS V D.G.BRITT: OMN: REX F.D.IND:IMP:'.

The reverse of the 1926 Gold Sovereign features the traditional design of Saint George and the dragon by Benedetto Pistrucci, as well as the sculptor's initials B.P. and the year of issue.
