The 2022 100th Anniversary of the Discovery of Tutankhamun’s Tomb Gold Proof £5 coin from The Royal Mint. In 1922, British archaeologist Howard Carter led an excavation in the Valley of the Kings in Egypt. During the excavation, the tomb of the ancient pharaoh Tutankhamun was discovered. The discovery sparked a renewed wave of interest in Ancient Egyptian history.
The reverse features a design by Laura Clancy which is based on Tutankhamun's famous gold mask. The obverse of the coin features Jody Clark's Fifth Portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, making this one of the final coins to depict Her Majesty.
This Proof five pound coin (Crown) is struck in 22 carat gold (916.7) and weighs a total of 39.94g. It is presented in a handsome presentation box and comes with a certificate of authenticity and full colour booklet.
