2021 Innovation in Science 100 Years of Insulin Fifty Pence Proof Gold Coin Boxed

The 2021 100 Years of Insulin Proof 22 carat gold 50p coin from the Royal Mint.

The Royal Mint continues it celebration of British scientists with this coin honouring the discovery of insulin. In the period before 1923 being diabetic was a life sentence with the best hope being a few years of survival on an extremely restricted diet. Through identifying and extracting insulin from the pancreas of a cow scientists Frederick Banting and John McLeod changed that and brought life and health to millions.

This Proof fifty pence coin weighs 15.5 grams, and is struck with 22 carat gold. The coin is presented in a handsome presentation box and comes with a certificate of authenticity and full colour booklet on the discovery.

A very limited run of only 250 coins were every minted.
