This is a 1912 gold coin, produced by the Ottawa Mint in Canada in 1912. The Mint was making British Sovereigns at the time, as denoted by the 'C' as the mint-mark found on the Sovereign. These coins are slightly heavier than Sovereigns though at 8.36 grams - at .900 purity, it contains 7.52 grams of pure gold. The coin series was not highly minted - just under 166,000 of these were produced during the year and the coin was made for a further two years with much lower mintage's until 1914.
The obverse of the coin features the wording: GEORGIVS V DEI GRA: REX ET IND: IMP: with the reverse of the coin states the country CANADA and FIVE DOLLARS.
